Trial applications for the patent dispute about patent and utility model rights in the field of Korean IT industry were increased last year more than twofold compared with those of 2000. This requires adopting urgent and systematic countermeasures against the patent dispute in the IT industry field.
On November 14 the Federation of Korean Information Industries(President Yoon, Jong-yong) released a report of “Strategies for Countermeasures against Patent Disputes in the IT field,” according to which trial applications for the patent disputes in Korea increased more than twofold from 2585 applications in 2000 to 5625 applications in 2004. Of those trial applications for the patent dispute the IT industry-related applications increased from 21.3% in 2000 to 31.7% in 2004.
As the global name recognition of Korean products has increased, the cases of their intellectual property right infringement also have increased in China and other developing countries. As of February 2004, 253 intellectual property rights of Korean industrial products were infringed in more than 30 countries.
