On December 1, KIPO commissioner Kim Jong-Kap had the fifth “Korea China Japan IPO Commissioner Meeting” with Chinese commissioner Tian Lipu and Japanese counterpart Makoto Nakajima at the International Intellectual Property Education Center in DaeJeon Metropolitan City, and discussed the matter of unifying the patent systems of three nations and establishing the patent community.
At the meeting three nation’s commissioners agreed that early patent examination and speedy patent rights grant and ensuing value-added creation are very important to accelerate the trade and investment among three nations in the same region of Northeast Asia. In 2004, three nation’s applications account for 43% (650,000 cases in 2004) of the total patent applications (1.5 million cases in 2004) of the whole world. To this end, three nations have agreed to continue to discuss the implementation measures for the establishment of the patent community.
