KIPO held an event to unveil its new mascot characters on January 4, 2011, with approximately 1,500 attendees including its employees and those of subsidiary organizations.
The mascot characters “KiKi” and “PoPo” maintain consistency with the image of KIPO while also connecting with its logo and English name.
KIPO has been developing the characters since September of 2010 for the purpose of positively enhancing its image and fostering public affinity.
An advisory committee comprised of academics specializing in characters, doctors of designs, and other related experts reviewed the drafts of design developer as well as winning works from a public competition. The characters were finally selected after a preference survey in KIPO and expert participation.
KiKi and PoPo will be actively utilized for a wide range of events as well as on souvenirs, the Internet, notices, publications and elsewhere as symbols of KIPO with the logo for the future.
Son Young-sik , director of the Customer Support Division, said, “Angbu Il-gu, a sundial which conveys our ancestors’ passion for invention and creativity, is reflected in the KIPO logo, which is now embodied in these new mascot characters. KIPO will strive to enhance public awareness of intellectual property rights through the newly introduced KiKi and PoPo.”
